10 Minutes, 10 Sessions
Sclerotherapy is an effective and minimally invasive medical-cosmetic treatment that fights varicose veins. It applies to small veins, less than 3mm called telangiectasis or spider veins. Treatment is very safe and eliminates the need for an invasive surgical procedure.
Ideal candidates are those who want to improve the appearance of:
Varicose veins (spider veins)
Symptoms associated with spider veins (pain, swelling, burning)
Small Varicose Veins
Treatment is contraindicated in:
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Cutaneous blood-borne disease that affects the vascular system
A Sclerotherapy session is performed on an outpatient basis. First the doctor needs to perform a scan and a functional examination of the veins (doppler).
During the session, a micro needle is use to inject a sclerosing solution into the veins to be treated. This solution causes the vein to harden, bleached and gradually disappears. The number of veins treated in a session depend on the size of veins being treated.
After each session of sclerotherapy, a compression bandage is applied for 12 hours and the patient is then able to return to normal activities, having to avoid direct sun exposure during the treatment. Spider veins will become more clear, it will usually take within 3 to 6 weeks and 3 to 4 months for larger veins.
If the veins respond effectively to treatment, they do not reappear but over the time new veins may appear.
