The Laser Skin Resurfacing is a minimally invasive technique for cosmetic treatment that stimulates healthy skin to synthesize new collagen (a process called collagenesis), the treatment firms the skin, eliminating injuries making it look younger. A less invasive treatment with similar results is the Photorejuvenation with Intense Pulsed Light.
Laser resurfacing is particularly suitable to treat:
Aged or sun-damaged skin
Fine lines or wrinkles
Stains on the skin (liver spots)
Acne scars removal
Benign skin lesions
Non-responsive skin after a facelift
This laser treatment is contraindicated in patients who have:
History of hypertrophic scarring and/or keloid
The day of surgery the doctor mark the areas to be treated and the laser is applied to the skin to exfoliate the outer layers. The two types of laser used are the CO2 and Erbium (Er) YAG.
After surgery, a scab forms and will fall by itself, underneath there will be a new pinkish dry skin that must be hydrated 2 to 3 times per day, the skin will be pinkish for 4 to 6 weeks You should use sunscreen to prevent hyperpigmentation and you must wear a special makeup.
The Laser Skin Resurfacing will significantly improve the appearance of your skin. Deeper resurfacing will provide longer lasting results, they also depend on age, skin type and pigmentation of the patient. With care and avoiding too much sun, the results can last up to 3 years.
